Ta' Ġurdan Lighthouse

Ta’ Ġurdan Lighthouse stands on the hill above Għasri and is one of Gozo’s most recognisable viewpoints. Built in the 1850s during the British era, the lighthouse once guided ships navigating the island’s northern waters. Today it remains an active installation, but the hilltop and surrounding area are freely accessible and offer some of the most impressive 360-degree views on the island.

Visitors can reach the lighthouse either by car to the lower part of the hill or on foot via a steady uphill walk, which rewards you with sweeping views across the Gozitan countryside, dramatic coastlines and, on clear days, Malta in the distance. Although the interior of the lighthouse is not open to the public, the plateau around it provides plenty of space to sit, explore and take in the scenery. The area is especially beautiful at sunrise and sunset, when the landscape is bathed in soft light.

Opening & Costs:

Access to the hilltop is free.

The site has no official opening hours, as the lighthouse itself is not open to visitors; the exterior viewpoint is accessible at all times during daylight.

Ideal for:

Walkers and hikers looking for a scenic route with a rewarding viewpoint
