Getting to Sannat
Sannat is on the southwest coast of Gozo neighboured by the villages of Munxar, Xewkija, and Ghajnsielem. Just a 15-minute drive from the ferry terminal. If you’re travelling by bus, you would get to the capital, Victoria and take the 305 or the 306, which gets you to nearby Munxar. Sannat is home to the spectacular Sanap Cliffs, which are undoubtedly one of the most breathtaking sights on the island.
Staying In Sannat
Sannats rich history dates back to the 1500s. When the parish was established. In 1942, the village was hit by two WWII bombs, causing 18 deaths and significant damage to local buildings and landmarks. You can see a commemorative plaque as well as a section of one of the bombs on the back wall of the Parish Church and you’ll also see a commemorative plaque from the 1951 visit of HRH Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip.
Beaches
Just a short distance from Sannat is Mgarr ix-Xini, one of Gozo’s most gorgeous natural inlets. It’s a prime swimming spot, and popular with rock jumpers if you fancy something with a bit more adrenaline. The small rocky beach is a great place to soak up the sun for a few hours, before enjoying some deliciously fresh seafood at the beachside restaurant. For film trivia lovers: this was the filming location for the movie ‘By the Sea’, starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
