Shesha Veda Gozo is an Ayurveda Spa in San Lawrenz, Gozo that sits inside two beautifully restored farmhouses, joined into one calm, lived-in space. Thick limestone walls, two quiet pool areas, and a small number of thoughtfully designed rooms set the tone straight away.

Shesha Veda Gozo

I was greeted at the door by Bernadette, who showed me around. The place has a warm, layered feel, with a clear Indian and Gozitan influence running through it. The farmhouse itself is stunning with stained glass windows, traditional archways and extremely high ceilings. In every corner there are carefully chosen pieces: carved wooden figures, brass oil lamps, singing bowls, handwoven textiles, and colourful artwork across the limestone walls. The furniture feels collected over time rather than placed for effect, and even the smaller details have been thought through, from the tea cups to the cutlery on the tables.

I met Christian, who runs the space with his partner Kristin. It was clear, the people here are what hold it all together. There’s a depth of experience that comes through immediately. Therapists like Arun Kumar, trained in Kerala with over 20 years of practice, and Mayadevi, who has spent decades offering Ayurveda across Malta and Gozo, bring a level of understanding that you feel without it needing to be explained. Around them is a wider team supporting the space through yoga, food and daily care, all working with the same level of attention and knowledge. It feels steady and well held.

Christian and Kristin’s story sits quietly behind it all. After both living with multiple sclerosis for years, they became more aware of what they were putting on and into their bodies, which led them towards natural, organic alternatives. That journey brought them to Shesha, a certified Ayurvedic company based in Kerala, India.

Shesha Veda Beauty Products

The products available at Shesha Veda follow the same philosophy as the treatments. They’re rooted in traditional Ayurvedic practice and focus on using natural, plant-based ingredients rather than synthetic formulations. You’ll find a mix of skincare and haircare, including herbal oils, face treatments, powders, mists and creams, all designed to support the skin and body over time rather than offer quick fixes.

What stood out is how closely they’re tied to the treatments themselves. These are the same kinds of oils and blends used during therapies, so there’s a continuity between what you experience in the room and what you can take home or buy online. It makes it easier to carry a small part of the experience into your daily routine, whether that’s through a simple oil ritual, a hair treatment or a more considered skincare approach.

What Can You Do At Shesha Veda Gozo?

There are different ways to experience Ayurveda at Shesha Veda Gozo, depending on how much time you have and what you’re looking for. Alongside treatments and products, they offer access to an Ayurvedic doctor, which allows for more personalised guidance around lifestyle, diet, stress, digestion and the right treatments for your body. There are also small workshops that bring Ayurveda into everyday life, covering everything from simple remedies to breathwork. For those wanting to go further, their Gozo retreats offer a more immersive stay with accommodation, yoga, daily treatments and Ayurvedic food.

My Experience At Shesha Veda Gozo

I experienced a series of Ayurvedic treatments with Maya, and what stayed with me was how carefully she layered them. Each treatment moved gently into the next, and by the end I felt as though she had taken me somewhere much deeper than ordinary relaxation. She worked with a deep knowing and steadiness. I felt her 20 years of experience within minutes. Her treatment was guided with care, confidence and a clear understanding of the body, rooted in traditional practice. She seemed to respond to just what my body needed.

The Treatment

It began with a seated head and neck massage, a gentle way to arrive into the session. Then came Abhyangam. Warm herbal oil, was slowly and steadily, worked across my whole body with intention. I love how consistency in a massage can settle you quickly. This massage isn’t about pressure or removing knots, like a deep tissue massage, it was all about letting go. My body softened in its own time and I felt completely relaxed. At one point I’m fairly sure I woke myself up snoring.

Next came Elakizhi. Maya used small bundles of medicinal leaves, prepared with herbs and hot oil, and patted them over my body, especially around the muscles that felt tight. She explained that the treatment helps ease stiffness, support the joints and bring movement back to areas that feel stuck. The heat comes in waves, hot at first, then slowly cooling. Even though the movement is a rhythmic patting, it feels surprisingly calming. I could sense something working through my body rather than just soothing it.

Dhara was the treatment I’ve always wanted to try. Have you ever seen a copper bowl hanging above a massage bed? I’d always wondered what it was for.

Maya released a continuous stream of warm oil across my forehead and kept it flowing for about 5 solid minutes. It sounds simple, and it is, but the effect is mesmerising. My mind slowed down, my body followed, and at some point I drifted somewhere else entirely.

The whole effect of this treatement, was immediate in terms of how relaxed I felt, but it was the days after that really stood out. My skin felt softer and more hydrated. My body felt lighter. And there was a clarity in my head that I hadn’t realised I’d been missing until it was there.

Note to self: Less noise, more space.

Accommodation At Shesha Veda Gozo

For those that wish to stay on retreat, the accommodation feels like an extension of the experience rather than a separate add-on. The rooms are beautiful. Simple, calm and well put together, with everything you need to settle in properly. I can imagine waking up to quiet, step out into the garden or by the pool, and the pace of the place holds you there, and with the sea, Ta’ Pinu and the island’s west side all within easy reach when you do decide to head out, it will make for a memorable stay.

In my opinion, Shesha Veda Gozo fills a real gap.

It offers something for people who want proper Ayurvedic treatment and guidance, rather than a one-off massage, and it does so in a way that feels open rather than exclusive. That matters here. For a long time, experiences of this depth have either not existed on the island or have felt out of reach – especially for those that live here.

Gozo already attracts people looking for space and time and experiences like this matter more than adding another location to a list.

Now, there’s even more reason to visit Gozo Island.
