15 Parishes Unite With Candlelight Across Gozo on All Saints Day
Churches Across Celebrate Their Saints And Villages With Stunning Candlelight Displays.
Gozo is known for its rich cultural calendar and on All Saints’ Day, the Cultural Heritage Directorate within the Ministry for Gozo in collaboration with the Gozo Diocese hosts an illumination outside every Gozitan parish church each year.
All Saints’ Day, known as “Jum il-Qaddisin” in Maltese, on 1st November is dedicated to commemorating all the saints who have lived holy and virtuous lives. On the 2nd of November, it is All Souls’ Day also known as the Day Of The Dead, which is a day to remember and pray for departed souls. It is when the living reflects upon their loved ones who have passed and offer prayers of peace.
This candle installation is held in honour of their Patron Saints and the villages, all the churches in Gozo create their own displays with thousands of candles. On each church’s parvis or square across Fontana, Ghajnsielem, Gharb, Kercem, Munxar, Nadur, Qala, Sannat, San Lawrenz, Victoria – Katidral Victoria, San Gorg, Xaghra, Xewkija and Zebbug, there will be a light installation in honour of their patron saint and village. Keep an eye on our events listings for this year’s dates.
