How Gozo inspired Jack the Digestive Machine
Jack the Digestive Machine | A Gozo-Inspired Kids’ Book
Meet Jack, a funny little square robot with a colourful, squiggly belly. Jack the Digestive Machine, has been written by Geri Mac and illustrated by Enna, he takes children on a trip through his digestive tract, where talking fruits, vegetables and herbs all have something to say.

Geri has spent decades working in wellness, including Amchara in Gharb, during her many years on Gozo. The island’s calm pace and her own healthy way of life inspired her to share what she’d learned with children. That influence comes through in the way this wonderful little book invites young readers to slow down, get curious and notice how they feel when they eat.
Making digestion fun for children
Apple has plenty to tell Jack about energy, and the bananas get him thinking about food and mood. As Jack explores his squiggly belly, he discovers how our bodies need the right kind of fuel, all working together and that its vital we understand and listen to our bodies.
Geri, with the help from illustrations by Enna make a big subject super inviting for little readers. A square robot and a cast of chatty fresh produce give children something to laugh at and someone to root for. Each character has a personality of its own, carrying a gentle message about what makes us different.
A book to read with your kids or grandkids
Aimed at children aged 3–10, it’s a story you can keep talking about after you’ve closed the book. What happens to an apple after you eat it? How do you know when you’re hungry or full? Which vegetable would be funniest if it could talk?
