Spring Dining In Gozo

  • 3 minute read

Al-fresco Dining Is Always A Treat In Gozo And This Restaurant Has It All.

Soak up the sights, aromas and flavours of Spring at Country Terrace Restaurant.

One of the many reasons we love Gozo is that Spring dining comes early and you can sit outside of most restaurants between December to February. With just a couple of short months of Winter, we are back with mild temps again come April.

So as we leave the outside world and take a pew on the terrace (with that view!) we put the world to rights at Country Terrace Restaurant – perfect for Spring dining in Gozo and we know we are guaranteed high standards at this super Gozitan restaurant.

Rose tea infused gin with elderflower tonic

In case you didn’t already know Country Terrace is home to an actual gin trolley, with no less than 250 (and counting) brands of gin and a fine selection of tonics and botanicals for the perfect G&T marriage. It’s no secret I’m a massive gin fan and so I jumped at the opportunity to sample gins from around the globe right here on Gozo and with THAT backdrop – happy days! In keeping with floral feels, we sipped away on Rose Tea-Infused Gin with Elderflower Tonic topped with fresh flowers, so pretty and such a delicate flavour. Grilled asparagus and French brie with a warm cranberry sauce

The first plate was an easy choice and a Country Terrace staple; Grilled Asparagus Wrapped with Parma Ham and Deep Fried Brie Wedges with Warm Cranberry Sauce. After all, does any vegetable say Spring more than asparagus? The brie was gorgeously gooey and hit the spot accompanied by a fresh cranberry sauce and perfectly tender asparagus spears, completed with miniature pickled onion bursts. A real crowd pleaser.

fish Main Course
Pan roasted salmon served with a prawn and seafood bisque

On to the mains… for fish, we opted for the Pan Roasted Salmon with a Seafood Bisque Finished with Creamy Lemon Sauce. Just look at that colour – you know when the Salmon is golden orange it represents quality and it is going to taste divine. The fish was cooked to perfection, the skin was crisped up for that crunch contrast to the delicate salmon fillet and the bisque was balanced beautifully to complete this knock-out dish!

meat main course
Pan roasted New Zealand grilled lamb with a mint and tomato jus

The second main was Pan Roasted New Zealand Grilled Lamb Frenched Rack Seasoned with Herbs and coarsely Cracked Peppercorns served on a lessening of Mint and Tomato Jus. A stunning ensemble. The lamb was succulent and the mint sauce had a novel but very pleasing taste, not sure what the secret ingredient was but it worked! I need to take a moment to give the potato fries a shoutout too. A strange accolade perhaps but I think they are the best I’ve tried on Gozo! Somewhere between a sauté potato and a regular chip, totally moreish. As always Joseph recommended a fine wine pairing – today was a full-bodied Italian Red.

dessert made with love
Amaretto and white chocolate love bomb

After this feast, we didn’t think there was room for dessert, but one bite of this amaretto infused love bomb and we were hooked! A sweet ending to such an enjoyable afternoon. Thank you, Country Terrace.
