We are blessed with higher temperatures on this sunny island. That means short winters and long hot summers, and with over 3,000 hours worth of sunshine over the course of a year, we islanders are pretty solar-powered. One of the best things to do in Gozo is to watch a jaw-dropping Gozitan sunset. Here, you will find information about where to watch the stunning sunset.
Mostly, the sun rises over Qala and sets in Gharb. So, if you are curious about where to experience the sunset in Gozo, the following places are a good bet throughout the year: Ta’ Ċenċ Cliffs, Sannat Sunset Viewpoint, Sanap Cliffs Sunset and Falesie di Gozo.
You can also head to some of the highest points in Gozo, such as Ta Dbiegi, Ġordan Lighthouse, Kappella ta’ San Dimitri, and walk to the very top of the Citadel and the Cathedral of the Assumption, which are wonderful places to experience Gozo’s sunsets from.

January – May
Through the winter months, it can feel like a hot spring day in Gozo. You can bask in the Mediterranean sun until it starts to set around 4.30-5.30 pm, and during these months, we are blessed with some of the most extraordinary sunsets in Europe. Jetting off to Gozo offers a perfect chance to learn where to enjoy the sunset.
Through April and May, the holiday season is starting to pick up speed. Easter weekend is lively and buzzing, and the temperatures have risen to consistent double figures. Summer is nearly here! Why not try heading to the top of the Citadel or over on the high hilltops in Xagħra or Nadur to view the stunning sunsets of Gozo? You’ll need to grab your spot for around 7-8 pm.
june – September
June is the beginning of summer, and everyone is totally ready for the influx of visitors to the island. The sunset in Gozo can be as late as 8-8.30 pm around this time of year, but we suggest getting to your chosen spot as early as 7.30 to get the full summer show!
Where to catch the sunset in Gozo in June through to September: Żebbuġ Hills, The Citadel, Xagħra Hilltops, Nadur Hilltops, Dwejra, Xlendi and Xwejni.
Also head to the Salt Pans in Marsalforn for some spectacular sunset action in August and September. You can bathe in the ocean whilst the sky turns from blue to pink, making it the ideal place for watching stunning sunsets in Gozo.
october – December
As the summer months draw to a close, temperatures in Gozo are still well above the 20-degree mark. This is a time when the locals reappear and life starts to move with a little more freedom, as it’s less busy and sticky. This is the perfect time of year to sit and watch a beautiful Gozo sunset. The whole of the south coast is a sure-fire bet, as are the high points of the island, for witnessing where you can view Gozo’s sunset and catch its splendour.
