Recently refurbished Ristorante Arzella is perched, elevated on the corner of Marsalforn’s working harbour and Għar Qawqla. This much-loved eatery has remarkable views of Bubbles Bay and the ever-changing Gozitan skyline.
You’d be hard pushed to find a restaurant in Gozo with a view such as this. The wide, spacious and super-light dining area is one of a kind. Both in the low and high seasons, it offers solace from the elements with an equal feel of being in the heart of them.

Piping hot bread with homemade creamy Bigilla was served as I sat with my birdseye view over the ever-changing scenes of the bustling harbour. Fishermen tending to their nets, boats coming in and our, group greetings on their daily walk and the ocean lapping against the rocks of the bay were framed with a gentle lunch playlist of sweet sounds from Ella Fitzgerald and Miles Davis.
I began with a starter from their Specials Menu, which changes weekly; ‘Trio Of Sea’ which was lovingly plated with giant langoustine, salmon tartar garnished with black caviar and a fresh, delicious oyster.
As the low buzz of the lunchtime rush gently kicked in at Ristorante Arzella, I relaxed into my lunch like a queen. Service was seamless, even though the restaurant was full which is never unusual at this seafront gem. I followed my exquisite starter with a choice from their main menu, Fillet of Beef served with their infamous peppered sauce, crispy, fresh onion rings and the fluffiest, crispiest chips.
The presentation was second to none and each mouthful was fueled with faithful flavour. It was washed down by a Chardonnay, which although isn’t an obvious pairing, it certainly did the trick.
