Antonio Salerno brings his creative ideas, consultation and delectable palette to Gozo cocktail scene.

If you are partial to a great tasting cocktail or mocktail, it might be time for you to seek out this guy. Antonio is the Leonard Bernstein of the cocktail world and can usually be found orchestrating the most amazing cocktails at Piutrentanove in Marsalforn. He is an internationally-trained, highly creative bartender who’s cocktails have taken Gozo by storm. Professionally trained in Mallorca, and part of the team that started Franca Manca, he has added his delectable consultation and expertise to various bars and restaurants on the island.

When he is not behind the Piutrentanove bar in Marsalforn, you will find him researching, foraging, practising, and soon, serving at a dinner party near you. Yes! You will soon be able to hire his services for your private event (frantically scans diary to find next available chance to have friends over), join one of his amazing Cocktail Workshops or send a handmade Cocktail Gift Box to someone special. Bomba! But more about that in the coming weeks…

Due to works going on along Marsalforn bay at this time, Piutrentanove has had to temporarily close their doors, therefore, while we await its re-opening, we asked Antonio to share some of his best-kept cocktail secrets with our GITH Magazine readers. Over the coming months, he will serve up two fan-favourite cocktails a month for you to make at home in five easy steps. This time he shows us how to make a tantalising Rum Cooler.

Antonio Uses Fresh Ingredients To Make The Most Delicious Tasting Cocktails. Have you Tried Ta Mena’s Ginger Carob Syrup?
RUM Cooler
Ingredients:
  • A Tall Glass
  • A Mixture Of Red Fruits i.e Strawberries, Raspberries and Blackberries.
  • Havana 3
  • Spiced Rum
  • Ginger Ale
  • Crushed Ice
Method:
  • Muddle your berries and leave a couple aside for your garnish.
  • Add half a cup of crushed ice to a tall glass.
  • Pour in a generous splash of Havana 3 and a dark Spiced Rum of your choice.
  • Stir it up and then add more ice to fill the cup.
  • Top up with Ginger Ale (or Lemonade, if you prefer) and garnish with left over berries.
